A Hard Card To Make...

As a parent, the worst nightmare is losing a child. I just can't imagine. Sadly, a fellow SCS member lost her 3 year old son recently. Though I do not know them, and we live states away from each other, my heart goes out to the family at this sad time. Sympathy cards are always hard to make, but this one is going to the family of little Henry. If you would like to send some thoughts their way, Kim is hosting a Blog Candy for a Cause to help the family, and Melissa at Pink Cat Studios has a digi stamp that you can purchase to help out, also. I have made this card to send them and also purchased the digi stamp that I will post another day this week. I want to make sure that card reaches its destination before posting.

Meanwhile, this card uses the weekly sketch challenge posted by Mary Jo at Techno Stamper. It is sketch #95!! I have participated in many of the weekly challenges, but not nearly all of them. Now that Carter is napping more regularly in the morning, I am hoping to jump on the challenge wagon again!

The base is Kraft with Night of Navy and dp from SU! hostess benefits. The sentiment is from Little Paper Shop. The edge punch is EK Success.

Today is a half day of school for DS, so I have to run and get him. Then we are having a playdate with two boys on the block. I hope they keep each other quietly entertained! Thanks for looking!

Daisy Jar Sympathy

Before I went on vacation, I placed an order with Cornish Heritage Farms and this Daisy Jar was one of the stamps I ordered. I think CHF is my new favorite stamp company! Stamps are great quality, beautiful images and great customer service!! Not to mention a frequent shopper club :)

Since I keep getting caught without sympathy cards, I thought I should bulk up my stash in this category. This is one that will be added and hopefully not used very soon. I embossed the image with black ep, then used my water brush and inkpads to color the image. The flowers are Groovy Guava and the water is Bordering Blue. The jar is Going Grey and the flower centers are Summer Sun. I used Always Artichoke for the stems.

The image is layered on a piece of green and then Groovy Guava card stock. The dp is Basic Grey but I'm not sure which pattern - it was in my stash and I was very glad to find it because it had the perfect color combination. The tag is one of the Cuttlebug dies and edged with GG ink. Sentiment is from Little Paper Shop, stamped in Always Artichoke. Ribbon also from my stash.

Well, sadly it's already time for me to get ready for work. Although I'm going in late today, I have already done laundry and gone to the grocery store. Now my time is up and it's back to reality. Let's hope nothing catastrophic happened while I was away...

Another Sympathy Card...

I should never have ordered the In Loving Memory set from Little Paper Shop! (They were on sale, and I wanted to have them on hand) I have cursed myself, and the set is not even here yet. I got news this morning that my Step-Father's sister passed away yesterday. It was not entirely unexpected, as she has suffered from complications of obesity for years, and was completely unwilling to change her lifestyle. However, in the past 5 years, my Step-Father has lost his mother, a brother, now a sister, so my heart goes out to him.
This card came together from a new set I won from Joanne. They are Clear Art Stamps from Crafty Secrets, called Wildflowers. It also emcompasses Sharon's No Time to Stamp? challenge of black and white plus one. The plus one is True Thyme, partially because I really like that color and partially because I could not find any Kraft scraps near the top of my pile. The sentiment is SU! So Many Sayings, applied with the Stamp-a-ma-jig. I used Brilliance Moonlight White for the flowers and accented them with my Spica glitter pen, and a touch of the Glaze Pen.

The corners of the main panel have been altered with the Ticket Corner Punch, and I added a dot of Black Glaze Pen for accent. The ribbon is gorgeous May Arts silk ribbon that I got long ago from Verve Visual.
Can you believe tomorrow is June 1st? Yikes!! I hope you are all ready for summer! Thanks for looking.

Sympathy Card

Last week, one of DH's colleagues unexpectedly lost his mother. It was very sad, she went from the picture of health to having a brain hemmorage that proved fatal. DH asked me to make a card for his team to sign and send along to the family.

I have avoided adding Sympathy sets to my collection, because I don't like to have to send Sympathy cards. However, it is unavoidable and I created this simple card from Filigree Fantasy by Verve Visual. I used Close to Cocoa ink on the vanilla base card, layered with panels of chocolate and blue. The sentiment is from a set that I don't have the name for, but it has many sayings that can be used for multiple occasions. I went over the sentiment and some of the swirls with my glaze pen, and added a simple knot in the chocolate satin ribbon. It seems to me that a sympathy card should be understated, and I hope our thoughts helped them through this difficult time.
